On any given day, we rely on technology and our devices too heavily—I have never shied away from sharing my feelings on this topic. But today, my opinion is different. Today, I encourage you to use every platform available to you to speak up against violence against women.
The catalyst for this change of heart was an article I read last week that struck me as something I needed to share my unfiltered thoughts and feelings on.
The article was an opinion piece about the egregious assault on Israeli women perpetrated by Hamas. I wasn’t halfway through the article when I realized that not only did I feel compelled to do something, but I was upset that it had taken me this long to use my platform to speak up.
So, let me start by saying what’s really on my mind.
We must raise our voices against sexual violence toward women. Period.
Silence in the face of atrocities and sexual violence against women is not an option, as it only perpetuates the suffering of countless women who deserve our solidarity and support.
I believe that as global citizens, we have a responsibility to use our voices and available platforms to shed light on issues of violence and exploitation that go unnoticed but warrant accountability or speak up on political decisions that result in the loss of human rights.
This call to action transcends political boundaries and demands a collective commitment to human rights from all of us. And while I am just one person, I know that all it takes is one to create a ripple effect of goodness…
How the simple act of using your voice will make a difference:
- Speaking out against sexual violence against women is not just a moral obligation but a fundamental commitment to human rights. Every individual has the right to live free from violence and fear.
- By raising our voices collectively, we send a powerful message of global solidarity. We can exert pressure on international bodies through unity to address these types of heinous crimes.
- Speaking up empowers survivors to come forward, share their stories, and seek justice. Our voices can help break the culture of silence that allows these crimes to persist.
- Collective action has the potential to bring about policy changes. Governments and international organizations are more likely to act when they see a groundswell of public concern.
- By speaking up, we actively create a safer world for future generations. It’s our responsibility to work towards a future where such atrocities have no place.
By addressing these issues head-on, we are voicing our commitment to fight for gender equality globally. Speaking up sends a clear message that we will not tolerate any form of discrimination or violence based on gender.
Individually, our voices have power. But together, we are a force for change.
Please join me in creating a ripple effect by speaking up against the injustices and assaults on women.
Please share your thoughts below, share this article across your social networks and send a letter to your government representative asking for more action.
Be authentic. Be real. Be kind.
